We designed and maintained the Maui Film Festival website and email newsletter for thirteen years. First contacted in 2003, our mission was to bring the website up to date and launch a brand new look. Our personal goal was to create something that could rival any top film festival website in the world. We accomplished what we set out to do, and what ensued was a wild ride. Its the film business, so deadlines were tight and the pressure was always on.
Under the festival umbrella there were three separate film events with three distinct websites: Maui Film Festival at Wailea and MACC, FirstLight: Academy Screenings on Maui, and Candlelight Cafe & Cinema. As a result, the website transformed several times a year into distinct and separate websites depending on which festival was taking place.
Besides running the festival website, our project included creating 25+ email newsletters annually, designing online ads, and publishing an annual festival eBook.
The biggest reward came each summer for five nights under the stars and moon at the Celestial Cinema on the Wailea Golf Course in Maui. This is where a 40’ screen with surround sound and outdoor theater seating 3,000+ people was constructed. Each night two feature length films, a variety of shorts and award ceremonies took place. Truly chicken skin moments!
